Filet Mignon

fi·let mi·gnon, /fiˌlā minˈyän/ :
• French for ‘cute fillet’
• “a thick slice of beef cut from the narrow end of a beef tenderloin”

Probably didn’t know about the translation, but it’s true that while eating a delicious filet mignon, “cute” isn’t exactly what you’re thinking.

It’s true that a filet mignon is traditionally an “invention” of French cuisine. But fortunately, today you can get this deliciously tender piece of beef anywhere — including the United States!

In fact, we even have a day to celebrate filet mignon: August 13th.

So, are you ready for the big day? If you’re still without plans, don’t fret just yet. We’ve got plenty of ideas on how you can celebrate:

1. A barbecue chez vous!

Why not host a barbecue at your house? Invite your closest friends, co-workers, or your family. And hey, make it an outdoor affair — it’s summer after all! Get decorations, fancy red and white tablecloths, Tiki torches, and go all out!

Filet mignon steaks are available at basically all butcher shops and most large grocery stores. Pick the choicest filets, season, and throw ‘em on the grill!

2. Dinner for one?

Not enough time to plan an outdoor barbecue and invite the whole gang? No worries. A private dinner at home with your favorite filet mignon recipe is just as good.

Try a simple salt and black pepper seasoned filet, or go with something more creative and exciting, like a filet slathered in a delicious parmesan butter or one topped with mozzarella, tomatoes, and basil.

3. A visit to Scotch ‘n Sirloin for your “filet-fix”!

This is by far our favorite option for celebrating National Filet Mignon Day. After all, why slave over a hot oven or grill when you can go out to the best steak restaurant in Buffalo?

Scotch ‘n Sirloin has a variety of super tender, super delicious filet mignon steaks. Come enjoy a full cut (12 oz.) or petite cut (8 oz.) along with your choice of sides. Choose from French fries, sweet potato fries, baked Idaho potato, fresh vegetable, or curried rice. And don’t forget The Scotch’s Famous Sautéed Mushrooms (flamed in sherry and the perfect complement to your filet)!

So? Got your plans in order? Make reservations today because August 13th fast approaches!
